Monday Harvest – 10th June 2013

I’m a bit short on photos this week.  I have been super busy and have tended to harvest after dusk whilst preparing the evening meal.  As a result I didn’t get me camera out very often.

I am still harvesting quite a few crops; chillies, parsley, basil, the occasional eggplant, lime and finger lime but sadly I failed to photograph any of those.  What I did capture was some Cavolo Nero  made a little tatty by poultry attack.

Cavolo Nero

A handful or two of spring onions,

Spring Onions

and some broccoli (also with spring onions).

Broccoli

I really enjoying the broccoli in particular although the spring onions aren’t half bad either.

For more harvests head over to Daphne’s for her fabulous Monday Harvest series.

  1. Not bad for your time of year – what time is it getting dark for you at the moment?

    • Liz says:

It gets dark at about 6pm. We don’t tend to get dark any earlier than that but then we don’t have your really long evenings in summer either.

  2. Michelle says:

A little henpecking is nicer than an aphid infestation, which is what’s happening to my kale at the moment. Perfect looking broccoli though!

  3. Diana says:

Must be very rush now that day has getting shorter. All of your yummy harvest in the photo , we have to wait for the wet season to try growing them.

  4. Daphne says:

Sadly I’m still waiting for my broccoli to produce. Love the spring onions. I think I’ve used more this year than any year in over a decade.

  5. Daves's SFG says:

We don’t need photos, it is easy to imagine how beautiful your harvests were. Your Cavolo Nero with hen pecks easily trumps my Beedy’s Camden shot full of flea beetle holes. Hope you catch up soon.

  6. Norma Chang says:

Your kale still look good despite the poultry attack.

  7. Shawn Ann says:

We can probably all relate to the business of life! I am just impressed with how long you can keep the harvest going into your winter!

  8. Andrea says:

Hi Liz, nothing like having to share your greens……………at least its not those pesky rats! Did I read eggplant? they have certainly been good value……….

  9. kitsapFG says:

Pretty fine looking kale considering hens had a first go at them! If my flock had gotten to it they would have been unrecognizable in seconds. They do so love kale and broccoli plants. 😉 You are getting a wonderful amount of harvests yet.

  10. Louise says:

I am with you on broccoli. Home grown and very fresh tastes so different to shop bought broccoli – not at all bitter. I find my chooky girls love all brassicas! I am having a bit of a hard time keeping them off them…

  11. Looks like enough of a harvest for a very delicious meal or two! We tend to think of spring onions as more of a garnish, though, with the long spring we’re having, we’ve really been relying on it and using masses of it in place of the other lagging greens…

  12. Jenny says:

Very nice harvest, and that broccoli looks yummy.

  13. Lrong says:

The color of that kale… wonderful…
