Monday Harvest – 24th Dec 2012

I feel like my harvest this week should be a nice festive mix of red, white and green.  However, the closest I get to either red or white is this onion –  The first of my onion harvest for this year.  I would have left it in the ground for longer expect I ran out of onions at a vital stage of dinner preparation.

Red onion

I’m  not sure how pleased I’m going to be with this years onions.  I’ll give them another few weeks before I pass judgement though .   What I am reasonably pleased with is the zucchini which is producing well although I am getting a few rotting from the flower end after the flowers drop off.

I guess salad bowl red lettuce is kind of red, in a purpley sort of way.  It is the best performing lettuce in my garden at the moment.  My wild rocket is also doing very well.

My final picture for this week (I have been out a lot, hence minimal pictures) is mint.  I have been making a lot of salads lately and using mint in most of them.

Those were my harvests for this week – for more head over to Daphne’s.  A very happy holiday season to all.  Merry Christmas!

Those zucchini look just perfect. They are such a distant memory for me now. Merry Christmas!

Pretty harvest, nice zucchs! I have very little to show for my self so far starting so late and all. I have picked a few chillies, a couple of cherry toms , a lone zucch and a good regular handful of blue berries. it will get better with beans on their way and healthy looking cucumber babies. Best of the season – let’s hope that Melbourne doesn’t get too many more of those scorchers that you have been having.

  3. Wow I am impressed with your onions I think mine were all a lot smaller. Zucchini looks fabulous. Have a brilliant Christmas hope Santa brings something nice for the garden

I have rocket envy. Mine is doing fine but I must get some of the variety you grow. I pulled my onions ages ago as they were looking done for, most were small but there were a few good sized ones amongst them.

I’ve been harvesting a few bits and pieces lately but I’ll write about that another time.

Have a fantastic Christmas, Liz. It has been a pleasure reading your blog and interacting with you. I think it was around about this time last year that I found it and I’ve learned so much and hooked into other great blogs as a result (Garden Glut for example).

    Merry Christmas, everyone!

I have had some white and some green harvests this week: parsnips and brussels sprouts. No red though (my chillis are all in the freezer now). Best Wishes for Christmas, and please give us more of your great posts next year. Top 5 Christmas treats??

Nice harvest! It’s interesting to see zucchini in season (and in your earlier post you mentioned strawberries coming into season) when those are distant memories for us in this part of the world. Perfect Christmas colors! Best wishes for the New Year!

  8. Bee Girl says:

Ah…zukes! They are so far behind us now, I hardly remember harvesting any! I appreciate your goal of red, white and green harvests…that sounds like a fun game to play even if it’s not always successful 😉

  9. Sarah says:

Your onion looks pretty good, and the lettuce and rocket will make a tasty salad – all seems very unseasonal when we’re wading about knee deep in mud! Have a wonderful Christmas and lots of good things in the new year!

  10. Michelle says:

Your veggies always look so fresh and beautiful! Ah, if I had remembered to photograph the final harvest of ripe peppers from the garden this week I could have done red, white, and green – maybe next year.

  11. Dave says:

I enjoy looking at your summer-y harvests, especially since we have a blizzard forecast for tomorrow evening. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  12. Patsy says:
