This week’s harvest is very green and herby with the last of the cauliflowers thrown in for good measure.
On Tuesday I was making stock – parsley, thyme and celery from the garden.
I also made a herby dressing for my pumpkin and cauliflower salad – chervil, dill, parsley, coriander, and spring onions.
Later in the week and I harvested a fairly pathetic portion of broccoli along with some parsley, spring onions & watercress for a salad.
Then yesterday I harvested the rest of my cauliflower. The picture on the left shows just what happens when cauliflower has to compete (in this case with celery) – a baby head – it measured just 5cm across. Oh well it tasted nice anyway….

you mustn’t be too self-critical! Having ANYTHING to harvest is better than what most people do… I’m a great lover of herbs too; they certainly give you more flexibility on the culinary front.
Thanks Mark, You’re absolutely right of course!
Great herbs! Nice idea on the stock, I should get working on that too!
Your cauliflower looks great!
Your broccoli look nice. We still don’t have any cauliflowers and celery to harvest yet. So each time I visit you, I am wishing harder that some of our cauliflower and celery will grow faster for us to harvest them.
Lovely herb harvests and while the broccoli was small in amount – it looked pretty tasty!
Congratulations on your harvest! I’m jealous of your baby cauliflower! Ours failed and has been used as a distraction crop… stinkin’ aphids… so I’ll take a baby cauliflower over those guys any day!
Arrgh aphids – as long as I grow Brassicas over winter they seem to be fine – but any that last into Spring then they seem to crawl with them – if only I could entice a flock of ladybirds in to deal with them…..
Bee Girl – for some reason I can’t seem to leave comments on your blog – apologies for my silence.
Any broccoli at all in August is impressive in my book! Your greens look great- so refreshing.
broccoli and cauliflower is no easy task! They look great! I have yet to get a cauliflower out of my garden!
Your harvest is exactly complimentary to mine! What I wouldn’t give for fewer tomatoes and peppers, but more herbs, broccoli, cauliflower and celery…. I have to buy things from the store to make stock 🙁
Thanks everyone, I feel better about my humble brassicas now!
